DRONE READY SPANISH MACKERAL FLOATING WIRE RIG

This Drone Rig has been adapted from my Spanish Mackerel Wire Rig Range to make it drone ready. This is the best float line Spanish Mackerel rig you will come across just using the humble old full Pilly. Also suitable for Garfish and Sauri or whatever the local Spanish Mackerel go to bait is in your area.  If any other incidental pelagics take this rig you can be assured of its sturdiness and is up to the task. This will also land Sharks.

The main feature of this rig is the long 3 m of mono trace to the wire trace. This keeps all the snap swivels, sinkers and hardware away from the bait. Mackerel can be finicky when it comes to hardware. The rig includes  3-way crane swivels to clip or tie your mainline from rod onto. Also has the drone attachment loop ready to go. Just add a suitable float or small balloon to this drone loop attachment tag and you’ve got your Spanish Mackerel Floating Wire rig good to go. You will notice a small piece of mono attached to the midway 3- way swivel to tie on a lead if required to get the bait deeper or keep it deeper on the slow retrieve/troll. With the trace lengths and use of a float it is made to sit 1-3 m below the surface. To get the bait deeper you will need to use a sliding float with use of rubber/nylon stopper beads. (See diagrams)

For drone use you will need to suspend the rig off the bottom. You can do this with floats or small balloons. Simply put a float onto the drone connection loop tag which will get the bait in the 1-3 m depth range. Or you can also use a sliding float rig to set the depth as required. (See diagrams for set ups)

Suitable for full Pilchards, Garfish, Herring You could put Livies on this as well.

Sometimes a good way of catching Mackerel is to have the bait slowly moving. You might want to try deploying the bait by drone then slowly retrieving the bait to shore. Make sure the bait is well presented and does not spin.
